HEIGHT, BUILDING. The vertical distance from grade plane to the average height of the highest roof surface. In the case of a building with multiple roof levels, the highest of the various roof levels must be used to determine the building height. If the highest of the various roof levels is a sloped roof, then the average height of that sloped roof must be used. The average height of multiple roof levels is not to be used to determine the building height.

A penthouse is not intended to affect the measurement of building height. By definition, a “Penthouse” is a structure that is built above the roof of a building.
